Art Smart ~ Lazy Summer Dayz

{Emmett's House ~ by Cornflower Press}

Check out the etsy shop of Cornflower Press. They take reclaimed lumber, make little house shapes out of wood, then paints all four sides and prints each one with a different original image from one of their hand-carved linoleum blocks.

They remind me of lazy summer days, and would look great hanging in a kitchen or on a shelf ~ the also can stand on their own! Really fun and unique art.

Cheerful Pink Rooms

Ghislaine ViƱas is an interior designer who really enjoy pink and green colors. Even her website shows that. Among her works there are two loft designs in Tribeca, New York, which interiors also could show that. Even though these interiors are quite neutral they features several places, where pink accents add life in them. The best thing about using the way the designer does is that these rooms with pink touches don’t look like they are designed for young girls. Cheerful pink highlights not only make rooms cozy but also make them more modern. Pink is always goes hand by hand with fashion.Cheerful Pink Rooms

This rustic domination but fresh looking and contemporary kitchen decoration trends was brought to you by ABK. Design Tip of the Week (5.17.10): Be on the list

One of the best ways to get inspiration is to be on the right list. And may we suggest two.

1. Etsy...if you read P4D regularly, you know we LOVE Etsy. Well you may not know that they send a daily email that profiles different vendors and their goods based around a theme. These collections give us some great inspiration for the Blog as well as our homes. As an example, here is a sample of the items sent yesterday in their "Going Coastal" email that profiled some awesome beachy items.

True Blue Tables from Turqoiseshed

Sea Tree from Jrurig

Pillows from Plumcushion

So head over to Etsy and sign yourself up!

2. BHG - Another one you must be on list for. Better Homes and Gardens sends out great ideas daily, has lots of pics, and are organized by room and style.

Asian Interior Design Ideas

Some people think that Asian interior design is mostly about adding some Chinese letters and words inside the room or using dragons all over. Well, the fact is that Asian design has a much deeper sense to it.

One reason that many people are a fan of this style of interior design, is because of its unique style. The Asian culture and symbols have thousands of years in history and that gives a stylish depth to them.

One of the unique parts of Asian decor and design is using the red color a lot in various parts of the house decor. Because Chinese people and Asians believe that red brings good luck.

Another big part of Asian design that you may have noticed, is how it smartly captures and makes the most of the natural sunlight to give light to the house, instead of relying mostly on electric light.

It is because in Asian culture, they believe nothing is more energy giving and healthy for mind and body than the natural sunlight. So it a good way to adapt this style to your house for maximum energy.

Some people may think the Asian design style is mostly about dragons. But even though dragons are a symbol of power and good luck in the Chinese traditional culture, the Asian design is more than just dragons.

Here are some example photos for Asian interior design ideas...

Art Smart (5.13.10): Welcome Summer

In a recent attempt to think through a picture collage, I wanted to re-share P4D's post on ways to approach collages from last summer.

Do you have an empty wall, some pictures stuffed away in a box, and some time? Create a PICTURE COLLAGE! Its fun, its creative, and it gives your house guests something to stop and gander at. TIP: Hallways are a great place for picture collages; they usually need some love and nobody really spends much time there.

There are some tips for creating a tasteful collage, but generally, you really can be as creative as you want to be. Mainly, think outside the box and don't get weighed down by precision.

*Pick one thing that will be your unifying element. For example, you may want to use the same color matting or the same type of frame but in various sizes.

*If you have a hint of OCD lurking inside you, you may want to measure the distance between your frames. Two inches is a good rule of thumb for tighter collages without losing complete wall view.

*VERY IMPORTANT- think through your hanging pattern and lay it out on the floor BEFORE you start putting holes in the wall.

*Find your center and work off that picture. You will need a visual anchor, so start from the center and build around it.

*Use a level if you are doing uniform, parallel rows of pictures.

*A fun alternative to pictures are postcards.

Dandy Chandy Tuesday!

While this chandy is available through Rosenberry Rooms, a children's store, it is far from child's play! Love the clean lines of the chic Elise Pendant. This chandy would be great to finish off that art deco look you have been working on or in a black and white color scheme.

Beautiful Kitchen Design

I received my copy of Better Homes & Gardens, which is sent to me automatically since I'm subscribed to Decorating Inspiration, a good resource by the way, and I saw a major featured kitchen in this issue that was also on display at KBIS. I had taken photos of this kitchen, which are the top three, below. This issue is out now with lots of other images and information on this kitchen. It is the August issue.Kitchen Design and Style
The real point I want to make about this kitchen is to encourage my readers to consider its style. My sense, which I hope I can communite effectively, is that this is one of a "type" of kitchen style, that, is just that, about (kitchen) style alone. It's not about history, architecture, or about one's unique personality being reflected in the kitchen design.

Kitchen Design and StyleKitchen Design and Style
It's simply all about how to style a kitchen, end of story. It's the kind of look that I know it when I see it! I've seen it many times before, and to me, it is a distinctive look, this all encompassing theme of "kitchen style," for style's sake. It's a really beautiful kitchen in many ways. It's not for me, personally, but then, I have the luxury to sit here and go into the nuances of all things kitchens and dissect it all! There are a good number of clever and interesting elements in this kitchen. It's beautiful in many ways, and certainly highly functional, but I cannot find the soul. It is subjective, don't forget that. AND, after all, it's a "set" kitchen, made to showcase products' versatilities, which it does quite well.
