What a gorgeous screen print of 133 hand drawn buildings in Nate Duval's etsy shop. It really invokes the feeling of a city in a playful, geometric way.

Dandy Chandy Tuesday ~ Shimmering Cascade

The detailing in this absolutely gorgeous brand new chandelier from Pottery Barn is amazing. Hundreds of glass droplets form a shimmering cascade on this chandelier, it would be quite the statement piece in your dining room or so romantic in your master bedroom.

Design Tip of the Week (9.27.10): Add some Drama

Sometimes a flare for the dramatic isn't that bad, especially in your home. Exaggerated and dramatic looks add a rich, opulent feel to a space. Not sure how to do it? Here is some inspiration from the Delano Hotel in South Beach, Miami, where drama and sophistication meet. Large dramatic pieces fill the spaces of this uncluttered hotel. Their use of white as the dominating hue allow for an exaggerated look that is sophisticated and clean looking.

Floor to ceiling white sheer curtains

Long bench (notice attached pillow on one side which is a small detail that really plays against the symmetry of the wall).

High top, extra long dining room table (with amazing white glass chandelier - flush left)

High back couch and full sized chaise

Oversized white pendant

If you have a lot of unused space, large pieces are a fantastic way to fill them. Just don't overcrowd or over design around these types of pieces; their beauty lies in their ability to command attention on their own. Less is more when going big. So the moral of the story is...dramatic is good, just don't be a drama queen!

DUCT-TAPE CARPETS BY BERTJAN POT

BERTJAN POT is a legendary dutch designer and in typical excellent dutch design style, he has created these thought invoking and thoroughly cool duct tape carpets. They are pretty visually amazing but also conceptually abstract. The kind of thing that no normal person would ever think of doing, and thats why i love this carpet SO much. And why i love dutch designers.

These pieces encapsulate everything I LOVE about TAPE. Quirkiness, abstract-ivity (is that a word?) and crafty kookiness.

Bertjan Pot created these pieces for Tent London (which is part of London design week) in 2007.

He says " The duct-tape is really molten into the textile so it won’t come off when using it as a carpet". Great point. I was wondering about that.

I really love that the duct tape used on this piece is cut into small strips, not disguising or attempting to transform the tape into anything else. Furthermore, the tape is stuck onto the carpet so it is still performing its main task which is to stick.

It is, arguably one of the best uses of duct tape i can imagine. Damien Hirst, go shove your dots.

If anyone has an old rug like this lying around, please bring it around to my place and you can use my multitude of duct tapes to create this for me for and give it to me for christmas.

DUCT-TAPE CARPETS

Dutch designer Bertjan Pot created this one-of-a-kind beanbag sofa for a shared office space in Rotterdam. The carpet was given its colorful look by melting colored duct tape into the fibers.
